This article examines the independent self vs. interdependent self theories of development. Criticisms * One common criticism of these cultural paradigms is that the approach is too simplistic and reductionistic the dichotomous binary quality of individualism and communism is seen as problematical. * Another criticism of the framework involves the notion that independent and interdependent concerns coexist in the same culture * The core theoretical approach to relationship formation is attachment theory.Attachment theory stresses the evolutionary posterior of attachment relationships as a phylogenetically evolved adaptive system with a core of standard assumptions that are supposed to constitute univ ersals of ontogenetic development.
